A Deep Dive Into The Epson Runsense SF-710

The Epson Runsense SF-710 is a GPS runners watch with in-built stride sensor – reviewed and tested by Tristan Haskins. The SF-710 is the third model up in a range of 4 products in Epson’s Runsense line.

The SF-710 takes the SF-510 and adds a Waypoint alarm and more advanced alti-metric data. Just like the SF-510 this model includes an internal STRIDE SENSOR.

This sensor adds stride length, pitch (strides per minute) and will continue monitoring your running speed & distance in the event of GPS signal loss (under trees or indoors etc).

If you want heart rate monitoring you will also need the optional HRM chest strap (or any Bluetooth 4.0 HR sensor).

Runsense SF-710 Features

Combining highly accurate GPS tracking with a built-in Smart Stride Sensor to learn your technique, the SF-710 sports monitor measures distance and pace whatever the conditions.

Equipped with advanced training modes and programmable lap, pace and interval training, you can view real-time data at a glance on its four customisable screens. And it offers an amazing 30 hours of GPS tracking.

Accurately keep track

This accurate and intelligent GPS sports monitor features smart device compatibility. Sync the SF-710 with your phone to enable fast GPS positioning with the AGPS function. Its Smart Stride Sensor measures stride length and pitch and learns your individual technique, so if GPS signal is lost, the SF-710 will keep track of your distance and pace.

Helping you to train smarter

Runsense lets you track your progress against long-term targets, designed to improve your performance. It even lets you view your estimated finishing time or distance based on a set target. The free Runsense View portal and Run Connect app1 help you customise settings, and analyse, compare and even share your stats to maximise your potential. Connect to your smart device using Bluetooth Smart. Tap to cycle through four customisable screens, with up to three measurements on each, chosen from huge range of options.

Train your way, for longer

Its active GPS battery life of 30 hours is up to three times longer than comparable competitor products2. Set customisable phases for interval training, variable target pacing and laps and waypoints to suit your regime, or use the indoor mode. Water resistant up to 5ATM, and with a compact, lightweight design, the SF-710 is designed to fit into your lifestyle. Use with an optional heart rate chest strap to add another dimension to your training.

Top Alternatives

Next Model UP

epson runsense sf 810 review

The next model up is the Epson SF-810 with the HUGE added advantage of STRAPLESS heart rate monitoring. The SF-810 features Epson’s own OPTICAL HR sensor on the back of the watch.. no need for a chest strap.

Next Model DOWN

The next model DOWN is the Epson SF-510, very similar functions to this SF-710 with the loss of cumulative ascent/descent data and Waypoint alarm

Alternative products

UPDATE > Dec 2016. The Epson SF-710 does what it should however, in all honesty, there are better running watches on the market.

If you’re exercise is predominantly running based and you want GPS speed & distance plus a built-in activity tracker then please consider one of the following alternatives.

The Polar M400 (heart rate belt),

Polar M200 (wrist based heart rate), Garmin Forerunner 35 (wrist based) or the best technical runners watch on the market the Garmin Forerunner 235 (wrist based HR) or the even more technical the Forerunner 630
