Where To Get It

A Deep Dive Into Wahoo Tickr

The Wahoo Tickr is a chest strap style heart rate monitor sensor with Bluetooth 4.0 connectivity to Android and iPhone smartphones. With literally dozens of fitness Apps to chose from you are certain to find a sport specific version that meets your needs whether it’s Strava for cycling and running or MapMyFitness for general health and well being. As well as transmitting in Bluetooth 4.0 the Tickr also transmits in Garmin’s ANT+ protocol making it compatible with Garmin Edge and Forerunner products. The Wahoo Tickr has been reviewed by Tristan Haskins.

Main Features and Functions

Wahoo Tickr – Bluetooth & ANT+

This is the most popular product. The Wahoo Tickr connects to most smartphones using Bluetooth 4.0. Compatible with all the latest iPhones and Android smartphones. The Wahoo Tickr also transmits in ANT+ making it compatible with Garmin Edge and Forerunner products.

More Features

Wahoo Tickr RUN – Bluetooth & ANT+ with RUN metrics

Wahoo Tickr X – Bluetooth & ANT+ with internal memory

Wahoo – 7 Minute Workout

Alternative Smartphone HR sensors

Several other companies sell high quality Bluetooth heart rate monitors. The two other brands that I can recommend are the Polar H7 and the BlueLeza. The BlueLeza also transmits in BOTH Bluetooth 4.0 and ANT+.

This makes it popular for those who want to connect heart rate to a smartphone (iPhone/Android etc) or a Bluetooth compatible fitness watch (eg. Suunto Ambit, Polar V800 etc) or a Garmin Edge / Forerunner devices running ANT+. The Polar H7 transmits in both Bluetooth 4.0 and also Polar 5.4Khz analogue coded signal (Polar Wearlink) compatible with popular Gym equipment and older heart rate monitors from Polar like the RC3, FT2, FT4 etc.

  • Polar H7 Bluetooth 4.0 and Polar Wearlink / GymLink coded
  • BlueLeza ANT+ & Bluetooth heart rate sensor (highly recommended)
  • Polar H10 Bluetooth & T31 coded / Wearlink PLUS internal storage for one session (eg SWIM) – GOLD STANDARD heart rate sensor
  • Or something completely different – the Polar OH1 Optical Heart Rate monitor that is worn on the upper or lower arm. Accuracy & Comfort
  • Polar OH1  Armband Heart Rate Sensor – GOLD STANDARD optical heart rate sensor

REVIEW SUMMARY

TICKR is the most advanced way to train with heart rate. It features the Burn and Burst™ program to help you find the right training zone, whether you are working towards a PR or just working off a big meal.

The TICKR monitors your heart rate, calories burned, and time plus distance and pace when connected to your phone and favorite fitness app. The TICKR’s dual band technology (Bluetooth/ANT+) works with most smartphones and GPS watches making it the ultimate heart rate monitor.

Train smart with the TICKR. If you cycle you might want to consider adding BIKE SPEED and PEDAL CADENCE with the Wahoo BlueSC sensor.
