NEW 2017 >> Suunto have added wrist based heart rate to the Suunto Spartan Sport Wrist HR

Suunto have a comprehensive range of GPS watches for outdoor sports enthusiasts. Their top of the range sports watches are the Suunto Spartan models. The Spartan range replaced the popular Ambit line which reached it's THIRD generation with the excellent Suunto Ambit3 Sport (still a solid performer)

Premium GPS Watch Range

Suunto released the Spartan range in October 2016. There is no doubt the range was released too soon and early reviews were disappointing. However, by April 2017 the Spartan range is a genuine Garmin Forerunner/Fenix contender following firmware upgrades.  Suunto's area of expertise is in the outdoor adventure / multisport / pro athlete market.

What's the best Suunto Heart Rate Monitor?

CardioCritic have increased the review rating of the Suunto Spartan Sport from a low 2.5/5 in Oct 2016 to a solid 4.5/5 stars in April 2017. Multiple firmware upgrades have improved the range's features and functionality significantly. With two models, one with traditional chest strap heart rate monitor, the other with wrist based heart rate, the Spartan Sport Wrist HR. All models of Spartan are designed for multisport athletes, people who run, bike, swim, surf, ski and much more.

    REPLACED by Spartan Sport

The Ambit2 R has been replaced by the Ambit 3 Run and more recently by the Spartan Sport. If it's a bargain you're after then it's still a good GPS runners watch but it is lacking in the Bluetooth syncronisation and activity tracking features of the newer models.
